I had the great opportunity to work for the Founder of Twisted Goods – Ms. Shashi Behl, for several years before being offered the chance to purchase the company.
My biggest initial challenge was difficulty securing financing for the purchase of the business, mostly due to being a young woman. Thankfully, with the support of non-traditional investment, and several local organizations — I was able to move forward.
I don’t know at what point a person decides they have achieved success — I’m sure it is different for everyone! For me, achieving success happens daily when I am able to empower another person in my company, give back to the community, learn and grow as a person, and find my own balance in the flexibility and responsibility of owning a business.
My advice for an aspiring entrepreneur would be to find a mentor who really challenges you, learn constantly (every month- read a book, attend a seminar, etc!), and trust your instincts.
Futurpreneur and Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan have helped me grow my business by offering financing, as well as support through many different learning opportunities and networking events.
I hope that what’s next for Twisted Goods is steady, sustainable growth that will create more jobs and opportunities – especially for young women in our communities. Our goal is that the positive impact of our company will continue to increase in every possible way as we stay open to new ideas and seize new opportunities.
