Digital literacy and business solutions

New technology often comes with many promises of technology solutions. It's clear that digital technologies can, and do, offer solutions to common business problems, but with so many options on the market it can be hard to tell what products and technologies are right for your business.

Transitioning to digital technology can solve many problems, and the advantage of many digital technologies is that you don't need to know everything about how they work to make good use of them; this is because being digitally literate isn't the same thing as being an expert in every type of digital technology.

When running your own business you may not have the time to become an expert in all aspects of technology. However, improving your digital literacy allows you to use technology productively while helping you to identify when to seek help.

Deciding when you need to look for help depends on a number of things. The extent of your knowledge, and the time you have to dedicate to learning about digital literacy both play a part. If running your business and daily logistics take up most of your time, it might be a good time to find an expert.

Having knowledge of digital technologies can help clarify your sales pitch. You may also find that being digitally literate will give you a more exact sense of your limitations, of what you don't know, and what to look for in a consultant or an employee.
