Small and medium businesses: Your feedback is helping the Canada Revenue Agency serve you better

September 27, 2018 - Tags: Taxation

This guest blog post is provided by the Canada Revenue Agency, which administers tax laws for the Government of Canada and for most provinces and territories, and administers various social and economic benefit and incentive programs delivered through the tax system.

This fall, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will be consulting with small and medium businesses and accountants across Canada. If you own a business or provide accounting services to a business, this is your opportunity to provide feedback that will help the CRA improve its services. Consultations are being held online and in person, allowing you to provide comments and suggestions in whatever way works for you.

In-person sessions are being held across Canada, hosted by local chambers of commerce and Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada. The in-person sessions will allow small and medium businesses to give their feedback to CRA senior officials in cities across Canada, including:

  • September 28, Surrey, British Columbia
  • October 1, Whitehorse, Yukon
  • October 24, Fredericton, New Brunswick
  • November 14, Red Deer, Alberta
  • November 14, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories
  • November 15, Sydney, Nova Scotia
  • November 21, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

In addition, Chartered Professional Accountants Canada is hosting face-to-face sessions that will allow accountants to give their feedback to CRA senior officials in these cities:

  • October 1, Whitehorse, Yukon
  • October 15, Kingston, Ontario
  • October 15, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador
  • October 16, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
  • October 29, Thunder Bay, Ontario
  • November 12, Winnipeg, Manitoba
  • November 14, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories
  • November 15, Red Deer, Alberta
  • November 15, Sydney, Nova Scotia
  • November 22, Regina, Saskatchewan

The CRA is committed to improving services for small and medium businesses. During the consultations, the CRA will be looking for opportunities to:

  1. Modernize and raise awareness of the CRA's digital services.
  2. Make tax information easier to access, understand, and use.
  3. Clarify information about payment options.
  4. Improve services related to the audit, collections, and appeals processes.

Thanks to feedback from previous consultations, you’re able to:

  1. Receive a CRA security code by email
  2. Request a Liaison Officer visit
  3. Provide T4 information slips to your employees in electronic format (certain conditions apply)
  4. Use T2 Auto-fill through commercial software
  5. Create your own filing and balance confirmation letters online
  6. View short 'how-to' videos that explain the services on My Business Account
  7. Experience telephone service improvements as we transition to the Government of Canada telephony platform over the next four years
  8. Share feedback about your audit experience in a new post-audit survey
  9. Resolve objections faster.

When you provide your input, you'll be helping the CRA deliver on its commitment to provide programs and services that are more streamlined and client-focused.

The CRA is looking forward to hearing from you, and other small and medium businesses, this fall. For more information about the 2018 consultations, visit canada.ca/cra-serving-you-better. To provide your feedback online, go to cra-engage-arc.ca/en.
