An interactive game to learn about IP

This guest blog post is provided by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) which is responsible for the administration and processing of the greater part of intellectual property in Canada.

You know that protecting your intellectual property (IP) is crucial to a successful and high-growth business, but are you feeling a little puzzled by all of the IP options you have to consider? Why not learn through play!

The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) collaborated with the Business Development Bank of Canada to create an exciting game about IP. In a nutshell, the intellectual property simulation game lets you choose between two entrepreneurs' scenarios and explore what types of IP they should protect. After interviewing the entrepreneur, you will be asked to suggest IP strategies that best fit their needs. Correct answers will earn you stars and you will be encouraged to play again to improve both your score and knowledge of IP.

The IP game will enable you to:

  • Consider what types of intellectual property you might have and could protect
  • Be inspired to find viable strategies to implement in relation to your IP

Give it a try! It's an entertaining way to get a clearer grasp on the facets of developing a business with intellectual property in mind.
